Old Joel Perry, in the twilight of his years and off the top of his head, wrote articles to the editor of the Early County News about events that had transpired years before, naming names and dates with uncanny - and unassailable exactitude. Colonel Nelson Tift, the founder of Albany and the builder of the highly innovative Iron Clads for the Confederate Navy called Joel Perry one of the most delightful minds of their times. The Colonel and his friend Judge John Jackson invited Joel to speak at the famous Tift Hall in Albany where he was entertained afterwards at Iris Court by Judge Jackson and his wife, Adelaide. Much water has passed under the bridge - wars have come and gone- generations after generations have played out their brief roles upon the stages of time. The villages that Joel speaks of so eloquently are now ghost towns or great cities - but many things remain as they were: The Flint and Chattahoochee Rivers still mark the east & west boundaries of the area depicted- Old Spanish Florida ( now ...
