Bald Eagles are widely distributed in Canada, not only along the seacoasts, but along lakes and rivers throughout the Canadian Boreal forest. DDT decimated the Bald Eagle population of southern Ontario during the 1950's and 1960's, and only now are these birds starting to come back. Hopefully, recent efforts to move young eagles from northwestern Ontario to artifical nest sites in southern Ontario will accelerate this process. Habitat changes, road and cottage development, the logging of trees needed for eagle nest sites and the depletion of fish, their primary prey, through overfishing or as a result of acid rain are all potential threats to Bald Eagles. Each of these concerns is addressed in this book, and approaches are suggested to some of these problems. Anyone interested in wildlife studies, particularly environmental impact studies, or in wildlife management in areas of Canada where there are Bald Eagles will find this book a valuable resource. A special section is devoted to the honor and memory of Charles Broley, a little known Canadian hero, a small wiry man who climbed to 100s of eagles' nests and banded over 1,200 young eagles. Doris Mager, well known for her work with Bald Eagles in Florida, comments in her contribution to this volume, 'It is not well-known to the public that a retired banker in his 70's from Canada, almost single-handedly charted the course for the recovery of the national symbol of the United States.'".
