As was the case in most areas, the trolley lines of Delaware County, Pennsylvania were built under the names of a multitude of small companies. The companies fall generally into two categories - those which were actual operating properties and those which were dummy corporations controlled by one of the operators. Again, as was the normal pattern, the various operators came to be consolidated into large regional groupings. In Delaware County, there were four such groupings. However, the pattern differs from normal in that one of the four, because of its location, corporate affiliations and financial problems was under control of one of the other combines during most of its existence.
