Written by Ogden Ross during the waning years of the Champlain Transportation Company's existence, and published on the occasion of its 100th anniversary in 1930, the Champlain Transportation Company (CTC) issued only 200 copies of the original edition of The Steamboats of Lake Champlain 1809 to 1930. A classic in its field, Ross' text and the accompanying wealth of black and white photographs, drawings, and copies of original documents detail the history of the steamboats owned by the Champlain Transportation Company, whose vessels greatly contributed to the rich heritage of the Champlain Valley steamboat era from the 19th century launch of its earliest and simplest steam-powered vessel through the age of elegant water travel aboard its luxurious Ticonderoga and Vermont III. The book was out of publication until this reprint edition was released in 1997 as a collaborative effort of the original and new publishers, and the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum. Arthur B. Cohn, the Museum's director, updated the original release with his foreword, afterword, postscript and with illustrated essays on the evolution of the lake's steamboats and ferries since 1930, as well as related developments in Champlain Valley underwater archaeology.
