In his journalistic career with metropolitan newspapers, Columb spent some years on sub-editors´ tables, worked in London and did stints as a features writer, leader writer and columnist. After 30 years as leader of the law courts staff of the "Herald" and "Weekly Times" during which he was regarded as the doyen of legal journalists, he joined the staff of the Law Institute and has continued to work casually for it as a journalist since his retirement in 1983. Columb´s first newspaper article in 1933 was on humour in the law reports. Since then he has always had a eye for the funny things.
