This volume concerns the new county of Cambridgeshire formed in 1974 by amalgamation of the two administrative· counties of Cambridgeshire and Isle of Ely and of Huntingdon and Peterborough. They in their turn had been formed in 1965 by the amalgamation of the administrative counties (formed in 1889) of Cambridgeshire and the Isle of Ely on the one hand, and Huntingdonshire and the Soke of Peterborough on the other. Cambridgeshire and the Isle of Ely together form the ancient or geographical county of Cambridgeshire. The Soke of Peterborough is part of the ancient or geographical county of Northamptonshire. Huntingdonshire forms an ancient county by itself. The contents of this booklet by the County Archivist include: Probate Records; Society of Friends (Quakers); Marriage Notice Registers; Other Records Listed under Parishes; Details of Record Offices, and a Map of Cambridgeshire, showing old boundaries of counties and parishes at end of book. Loosely inserted are 2 pages of amendments & corrected information arising from additional deposits made since the book went to publication. These have been transferred by hand to the relevant entries.
