Octavo (9.25" x 6.5"); 1044pp. Cream cloth-covered boards with brown paper title cards and gilt lettering to front and brown lettering to spine. Brown paper title cards with gilt lettering and border attached to title pages. Both volumes sturdy and square with faint edgewear and a few light smudges. Both open a bit easily to between a few gatherings, but bindings are holding soundly. Volume 2 shows some spotting to top of page block and to fore-edge. Pages are clean and unmarked. Facsimile reproduction of the only printed proof of the intended 1879 edition to survive a printing plant fire which destroyed the original typeset plates. An incredibly comprehensive history of the area, produced after years of work by the author who had access to many now-lost documents, early settlers, and numerous other resources.
