From inner front flap of dustjacket (in full): "This is the first full-scale Marlovian syntax that ever appeared. Although grammatical studies of Shakespeare's language are legion, those of Christopher Marlowe, the greatest of his contemporaries, have not been as well represented. This book presents an exhaustive analysis and description of all the works of Marlowe, covering plays, poems, and translations from Latin poets. The theoretical framework underlying this study is mainly that of transformational generative grammar, but the author has drawn both on the methods of the traditional grammar and on the insights of contemporary schools of linguistics. Commenting on a prepublication edition of this book, The Year's Work in English Studies stated: 'Sadao Ando has made a complete inventory of grammatical forms and structures found in Marlowe's work. This enormous labour will provide a useful working tool both for the Marlowe scholar and for the student of sixteenth-century usage'.". Printed in Japan. Bound in original grey boards with bright gilt lettering on black to spine, in publisher's unclipped printed dustjacket. Ex-library copy with very minimal library markings (merely two small unobtrusive ink stamps to early pages & blank clear pocket to rear pastedown), otherwise a very nice clean tight solid hardcover copy.
