The author tells of the unavailing struggle to remedy the initial error in the siting of the Castle, handling a heavy subject with a light touch. But against the implacable northwesters that made Table Bay a bay of storms, there was no easy remedy. Shipwreck and disaster followed thick and fast, till the very solvency of the mighty Dutch East India Company was at stake. . Copiously illustrated with more than a hundred colour and monochrome pictures, as well as many maps, this book not only tells an interesting story vividly, but is destined to be a collector's piece.".
