ISBN: 9780731510177 bzw. 0731510178, in Englisch, ANU / Cork University Press, Australia, Taschenbuch, gebraucht, Erstausgabe.
Von Händler/Antiquariat, Rare Aussie Books [56429521], Gungahlin, Australia.
vii + 252 indexed pages including Oliver MacDonagh's list of writings. There are ten essays in this book which were written by Peter Clarke, Mark Finnane, Cameron Hazlehurst, Allan Martin and Deryck Schreuder and were presented at a seminar in September 1989 in Canberra to honour Oliver MacDonagh in the year of his retirement as W.K. Hancock Professor of History in the Institute of Advanced Studies at the Australian National University. Oliver crowned the occasion with his paper on John Henry Newman. The essays by Ian d'Alton, Tom Dunne, John O'Brien and Pauric Travers were offered by Irish colleagues and former pupils who were unable to attend the gathering. Each offering has its starting point in Oliver's work. The range is extraordinarily wide, but it inescapably neglects problems in Irish, British, American and Australian historical and literacy studies to which Oliver MacDonagh has made luminous, fundamental published contributions, let alone the gentle but profound intellectual stimulation he has given in conversation to pupils and colleagues. Oliver Ormond Gerard Michael MacDonagh was a distinguished professor of Irish history who made a particular study of the historic relationship between Ireland and the United Kingdom. Size: 12mo.
