Aubrey Vincent Beardsley (21 August 1872 - 16 March 1898) was an English illustrator and author. His drawings in black ink, influenced by the style of Japanese woodcuts, emphasized the grotesque, the decadent, and the erotic. He was a leading figure in the Aesthetic movement which also included Oscar Wilde and James A. McNeill Whistler. Beardsley's contribution to the development of the Art Nouveau and poster styles was significant, despite the brevity of his career before his early death at the age of only 25 from tuberculosis. The great revival of interest in the art of Beardsley and the success of recent retrospective exhibitions of this work have demonstrated the need for a single volume presenting all his better-known prints and drawings as well as many of his less familiar but equally I'm,portant ones. Brian Reade, who was responsible for the exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art in Nedw in 1967 and for the one at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, is recognized as the leading authority on Beardsley today. Among the 500 examples on these pages, some have never been published before. An important feature of the book is the excellence of the reproductions. Hardcover, Izdevums: First Edition, Etiķetes: Avery, Avery, Produktu grupas: Book, Publicēts: 1967-11-08, Izdošanas datums: 1967-11-08, Studija: Avery, Pārdošanas rangs: 4211407.
