Front cover is a photo of Watson`s Mill at Manotick, Ontario, on a light mauve background and an orange tittle near the upper edge, and an orange title on the lower spine. Spine wear and tear 11/4 ins. [ 32mm ] along upper front spine edge, corner fold marks lower front and rear corners, and very small nick upper front edge of front cover. Colour rubbed front edge, along both spine edges and stress mark along centre spine. The book is both firm and solid. This book is in 5 parts with a one page summary after each section and examines the changes made in methodsof milling wheat in Ontario grist and flour mills from the 1780s to the 1880s. It describes machinery, and mill furnishings available during five overlapping periods of technique, and touch generally on some of the political, economic, social and geographical influences that affected the flour- milling industry. Quite a few olod drawings and cross-sections of systems. There is a 3 page epilogue, a 9 page glossary, 23 pages of end notes and a 27 page bibliography. A great study of the flour milling industry.
