This book recounts the service of one of the 25 British regiments which garrisoned the Australian colonies from 1790 to 1870. The 48th Northamptonshire Regiment was the first of the veteran Peninsular Regiments to serve in Australia arriving in 1817 and departing for India in 1824, when Sir Thomas Brisbane was governor of the Colony of new South Wales. As well as looking at the service of officers, deals with the attitudes and behaviour of other ranks and how the military interacted with the various sections of colonial society.
