Australia: Methuen, 1986. First edition thus. Hardcover, Glossy Pictorial Boards. Original, Very Good Condition. Dana K. Lundmark and Torbjorn Lundmark. On January 22nd, 1876, the ruler of a remote eastern principality died after a reign that had lasted from very early in the century and had been so peaceful and devoid of incident that very few people, outside of the British Foreign Office, knew of the existence of either Swat or its venerable ruler. Curiously enough, the publication of the demise of the Ahkoond of Swatz appealed simultaneously to the humorous sense of Mr. Edward Lear in England and of Mr. George T. Lanigan in America, and each of these distinguished versifiers celebrated the occasion in his own way. Edward Lear (12 May 1812 - 29 January 1888) was an English artist, illustrator, musician, author and poet, now known mostly for his literary nonsense in poetry and prose and especially his limericks, a form he popularised. As an author, he is known principally for his popular nonsense collections of poems, songs, short stories, botanical drawings, recipes and alphabets. He also composed and published twelve musical settings of Tennyson's poetry in poem. Torbjorn Lundmark (known as TL) Character Design, Comic artist, illustrator, Digital artist, was born in Sweden and has called Australia home since 1978. He studied linguistics and Slavonic languages at the University of Uppsala and spent one year at the philological faculty of Voronezh University in the then Soviet Union. He works as a professional writer, illustrator and cartoonist, and is the author of several books, including children's books. Dana Lundmark lives in Australia, in addition to her pursuit of the fine arts, Dana's interest in icon painting has taken her to several Russian monasteries to learn the methods and techniques directly from iconographers and monks. She has also spent an extended period studying traditional icon pigment making with one of the most renowned icon restorers in Krakow, Poland. Other interests include literature and jewellery making. She speaks several languages, is an avid traveller. Unpaginated. No DJ, unsure if issued with one. No inscriptions or markings, clean and as new throughout. [see image scan of actual book].
