Ten years ago a book about dinosaur tracks would have appealed to a handful of specialists. Today, it is likely to attract wider interest, in the wake of some major controversies about the natural history of dinosaurs. Originally, this book was intended to be an extensive survey of all dinosaur trace fossils, including stomach stones, eggs, nests, droppings, and feeding traces such as bite-marks. The study of such trace fossils, or paleoichnology, contributes substantially to knowledge of living habits and behavior, complementing knowledge of anatomy derived from the study of body fossils.
