Bester Preis: € 0,01 (vom 12.11.2016)The Pull of the Earth. (1985)
ISBN: 9780395368046 bzw. 0395368049, in Englisch, Houghton Mifflin, Boston, MA, gebundenes Buch, Erstausgabe, mit Einband.
First Ed; First Printing indicated. Very Near Fine in Very Near Fine DJ: Both book and DJ show only minute indications of use. Book shows front lower corner very mildly bumped; very light smudges at outside edge of page block; binding square and secure; text clean. DJ shows very slight wrinkle at upper rear hinge; price unclipped; mylar-protected. Overall, very close to 'As New'. NOT a Remainder. NOT a Book-Club Edition. NOT an Ex-Library copy. 8vo. 298pp. Hardback with DJ. The author slowly brings the reader in to the world of his characters who are well-developed and complex. The relationship between Janet and Lucien was almost excruciating for me to read because it was so real to me. The author perfectly describes how you can get involved with a person who you know you shouldn't. How you can convince yourself the person has changed or wasn't as bad as you thought and then the progression of how you then see reality, of who you are and who they are. What a beautiful retrospective of life on the farm! Well titled and absolutely beautifully written. A reader is taken to the New England Farm where you smell the wheat, understand the financial and health struggles of hardworking Americans, and their need for intense joy and forgiveness. I first read Pull of the Earth at least 20 years ago, reread more than once, and kept looking for another copy and more novels by Alfred Alcorn. He so well captures both the pull of the earth and the pull on one's heartstrings and emotions. I also recommend 'Vestments' by Alcorn, as well.
