"'For the friends of nature and art' - these words, which Prince Franz von Anhalt-Dessau had inscribed on the pantheon as an invitation to visitors to the garden kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz, were meant to express clearly and succinctly the fundamental idea that underlay the Prince's enlightened reform program.
