Language: English. Brand new Book. Mark McLean a 56-year-old photographer and studio owner, like a lot of men his age, believes his life is dull and far too predictable. He compares his existence to living life in monochrome and fears getting old without having lived one last spite one small indiscretion in his twenties, he's been a loyal and hardworking husband to Sandra and father to his two sons, and more lately grandfather to his four grandchildren.Through his work as a photographer, he meets Emily, a model with a somewhat interesting and mysterious history.Emily seems to represent the 'colour' Mark's been missing in his life and he feels an immediate attraction. Sadly, their initial contact is short lived as she moves abroad. She unexpectedly returns to his humdrum life and this time he is determined to seize the opportunity and the contentment and happiness he is convinced she will bring him. Despite its unconventional form and significant risks, he makes the difficult decision to pursue a relationship with Emily and explore the opportunities he believes will end in an idyllic conclusion.Great personal sacrifice is required, and more than a little deceit and unethical behaviour from both parties, not something Mark is completely comfortable with but pursues nonetheless.Mark struggles to contain the excitement and fulfilment the living a parallel life affords him. He feels for the first time in a long time he is actually happy.A short time later Mark moves Emily into the second home he and Sandra had previously purchased as an investment in Llanelli (they live in West Berkshire) without Sandra knowing. His intention being to join her there once he has 'disentangled himself from his marriage' (his words!)As he attempts to peel back the onion skin that is his new life, he is constantly troubled by just how little he seems to know and understand it and Emily in particular. Whilst everything seems to be going pretty much to plan, he does find himself with too much thinking time on his hands.A number of unexplained and increasingly nasty incidents frustrate him and do their best to disrupt his plans. Whilst evidence would suggest his estranged wife Sandra is behind these as time goes on there is more and more evidence to disprove this. If it wasn't Sandra, who else would be taking such a keen interest in disrupting their happiness?Emily continues to work to subsidise hers and Mark's existence, due in part to Mark's inability to secure work in his adopted town as easily as he had hoped. Her reaction to the nasty occurrences, clearly aimed at her, range for outright anger to complete disinterest.Mark makes the decision to sell the house and use the money (his part of the pending divorce settlement) to buy a small holding deeper in rural Wales and go into the equine business together.Emily is even more thrilled with the idea than Mark had ever hoped for and their relationship seems to move to another level as a result. They sell the house quickly and find an ideal property in which to start their fledgling business. With Christmas approaching neither Mark nor Emily could be any happier. The new year could not come quick enough as it was full of excitement and potential. All this however pales into insignificance when matters spiral rapidly out of control.Mark always knew he didn't know much about Emily and her background and even at times felt she hid her past from him.He could never however have anticipated what was to confront him.
