This document is guidance on how to characterise the dose (concentration) response for the different environmental compartments. In other words it is mainly a guidance on how toquantitatively assess the effects of a substance on the environment by determining the concentration of the substance below which adverse effects in the environmental sphere of concern are not expected to occur. This concentration is known as Predicted No-Effect Concentrations (PNECs). If it is not possible to derive the PNEC then this shall be clearly stated and fully justified such as for the air compartment where only a qualitative assessment is normally possible.
