At the age of fifteen he moved to Athens where he completed his high school studies. In the meantime he had already executed scenic designs for productions by,his brother Vassilis and Jannis Tsarouchis. His first teacher of painting was V. Drakas. At the Higher School of fine Arts he studied painting with Georgos Mavroeidis and mosaics with Elli Voila, as well as working on sculpture in the studio of Thanassis Apartis. He studied Byzantine art and worked on restorations at Mystra. Since 1967 he has been working as a stage and /costume designer and has received many awards in Greece and abroad. Dionysis Fotopoulos has produced scenic designs for 147 theatrical works and 36 films.
