It is the purpose of the manual to indicate to the teacher how the students may be guided in their work, and how the class hour may be made interesting and profitable. The manual has designedly been prepared for teachers of very slight experience. The attempt has been made to suggest step by step the movement to be followed in the preparation and teaching of each lesson. The object that has been kept in view has been to make it possible for a person with no pedagogic training to teach the stories of the heroes effectively. At the same time the needs of the more experienced teachers have not been overlooked, and it is hoped that such, while using the book with freedom, may yet find suggestions and illuminative material that will be helpful in their own preparation and conduct of the lesson.
