This book is in Modern Hebrew The thirty years of the British Mandate over Palestine (1917â€"1948) were a formative period in the development of Jewish Jerusalem outside the walls of the Old City. From a Jewish population of less than 20,000 at the end of WWI, Jerusalem had about 100,000 Jews on the eve of Israelâ€TMs War of Independence, 98 percent of them living outside the Old City. By describing the neighborhoods established or developed during this period, tracing the streets and the houses along them, together with a reconstruction of the names of their owners or the families that lived in them, Ben-Arieh tells the story of Jewish Jerusalem outside the walls that developed, grew, and became consolidated during the British Mandate period. While the book is replete with minute details that will serve as a basis for future studies of Jerusalem, as well as of Eretz Israel, during the period under study, what lies at its basis is a concept that maintains that in those years a new, modern Zionist-Jewish city emerged outside the wall of Old Jerusalem. The three-volume set + CD includes 90 original maps as well as 180 historical photos. Reconstruction of the story of the dozens of Jewish neighborhoods then existing includes over 100 tables with a detailed listing of the houses and the families in Jewish Jerusalem at that time, accompanied by thousands of footnotes and much additional material. Hardcover, Label: Yad Izhak Ben-Zvi Publications,Israel, Yad Izhak Ben-Zvi Publications,Israel, Produktgruppe: Book, Publiziert: 2013-01-01, Studio: Yad Izhak Ben-Zvi Publications,Israel, Verkaufsrang: 8305461.
