Wingolf ist der germanischen Mythologie nach eine Freundeshalle in der Walhalla. Bekannt wurde der Begriff durch den Dichter Klopstock, der eine Sammlung seiner Dichtungen so nannte und ihn als Tempel der Freundschaft übersetzte. Danach benannte sich eine 1844 gegründete christliche, aber nicht konfessionell gebundene und nicht schlagende Studentenverbindung, die in vielen deutschen Universitätsstädten bis heute vertreten ist.Das vorliegende Buch richtete sich an die 'Philister' der Verbindung und sollte ihnen ein Andenken an ihre Studentenzeit sein.
