LIT Verlag, 2014. Paperback. New Book. Paperback. This seventh volume of the Europa Orientalis series presents reports and papers that issue from The VII Annual Convention of the Centers for Austrian and Central European Studies held in Leiden in October of 2013. Established to improve the cooperation between host nations and Austria, these eight Centers provide an opportunity for young researchers to connect with colleagues and strengthen their international perspectives during their scientific careers. The contributors, all current Ph.D. students from the eight Centers, focus on cultural, political, and modern Central European history. There are eight Center reports. The eight articles are: spaces and emotional styles; street names and place names in Budapest and Vienna between 1918 and 1933; “I wanted to show—we are here!”; unknown life stories of communist editors; identity crises in Austrian Jewish refugee autobiographies; Franz Spina—a personality of German-Czech dialogue; genocide and crimes against humanity; questions of hate crimes with special regard to Austrian and Hungarian case law; a puzzle of reality; approaching the concept of confidence in students’ lived (learning) experiences. Distributed in the US by ISBS. (2014 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR).
