When I undertook this task, I had no intention of limiting its scope to the Jena glasses. But the number of published investigations relating to other glasses admitting of definite identification is so small that, though they have received the same treatment, they form only an insignificant fraction of the whole. If the plan of the book is somewhat out of the common, this is only in accordance with the special character of its subject.
