It is the Army proponent publication for all military symbols and complies with Department of Defense (DOD) Military-Standard (MIL-STD) 2525C, Common Warfighting Symbology. When communicating instructions to subordinate units, commanders and staffs from company throughcorps level should use this publication as a dictionary of operational terms and military symbols. The symbology chapters of this publication focus primarily on land military symbols applicable to the Army. This publication does not include terms that are only used within a branch or functional area or that have limited or no use outside the branch or functional area. This publication incorporates selected joint operational terms and definitions frequently used in Army doctrinal publications.
